Carduus - the name

Firstly, the name. Carduus is latin for thistle. The thistle in our logo was designed for us by the wonderfully creative people at Red Dog Trading Limited, based in Kettering in Northamptonshire. They have designed a couple of thistles for us and we have another on order that will be heading for our "carduus gallery". Yes, we are thistle mad!

Red Dog specializes in transforming furniture from its original finish to something much more spectacular but they do a lot more besides. We fully support Red Dog and feel privileged that they have designed our thistles. The Red Dog website will be published in the near future.

Carduus - the company

Pete Dempsey formed Carduus Consulting Limited in 2003. Pete has been involved in the information systems industry for almost 30 years, mostly as an independent consultant. He has worked in the private sector in industries as diverse as financial services, travel, tobacco, brewing, maunufacturing and distribution. He worked as an independent consultant in the USA for three years. He has also worked extensively in local government for a number of local authorities including Westminster City Council, London Borough of Lambeth, London Borough of Hackney, Arun District Council, Harborough District Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

When he started out all you needed to develop information systems was a lot of punched cards and an aircraft hangar. The aircraft hangar was for a mainframe computer, all flashing bulbs - just like you see in those old films, that wasn't as powerful as today's personal computers.

Associates
